Flight training at CFTAR (Center for Flight Training and Rental)

No aircraft rate. CFTAR publishes a $90/hr instructor rate and nothing for the airplanes, so there is no total on this page. The airplane is the biggest line on a training bill.

What CFTAR publishes

Checked August 20, 2026 · Source

Flight instruction: $90/hr

The instruction rate is published as a floor, "from $90 per hour", rather than a flat figure. The site does not state whether aircraft rentals include fuel.

What to ask when you call

The marked ones are what CFTAR's site never answers. The rest are what turns an hourly rate into a real bill.

  1. What is the hourly rate on your cheapest trainer, and which airplane is that?Missing from their site

This is the number that is missing from the site, and it is the largest line on your bill.

  2. Is that rate wet or dry, meaning does it include fuel?Missing from their site

A dry rate and a wet rate are not comparable. Dry rates can run $40 to $60 an hour lower for the same airplane.

  3. Do the published aircraft rates include fuel, or is fuel billed separately?

The site does not say, and it is the difference between two rates that look identical and are not.

  4. What do the Cessna 152 (N5314M) and the two Cessna 172Ms (N8926V, N12875) rent for per hour, and is fuel included?Missing from their site

The rental page still names all three tails and their avionics but no longer carries a price for any of them.

  5. Is $90/hr the rate you would actually pay, or does it depend on the rating?

The site says instruction is available "from $90 per hour", which is a floor and not necessarily the rate for your training.

  6. Do you offer block rates or prepay discounts, and what is the refund policy if I stop partway?

Block discounts are common and rarely published. The refund terms matter more than the discount.

  7. What do you charge for the written test, the checkride, and the examiner's fee?

The DPE fee alone runs $800 to $1,200 in most of the country and is almost never in a quoted hourly rate.

  8. How many trainers and how many full-time instructors do you have right now?

Availability decides your pace, and pace decides your total more than the hourly rate does.

What we checked

This school was carried with a full rate card until August 16, 2026, when re-verification found the prices gone from its rental page. The page still lists all three aeroplanes with their tail numbers and avionics and now says only "competitive rates". A seventeen-page crawl of the site found no aircraft price anywhere, and the only other hourly figure on the domain is the maintenance shop's $150/hr labour rate, which is not a rental rate. The previously recorded aircraft figures were removed rather than carried forward.
