Flight training at Front Royal Aviation

   This is the number that is missing from the site. Ground is often billed separately and at a different rate.

   Does the instructor rate change for the Instrument, Commercial, or CFI, or is it flat across everything?Missing from their site

   Plenty of schools charge more for advanced instruction. A flat rate quoted for the Private can climb later.

   The site does not say, and it is the difference between two rates that look identical and are not.

   What is the current instruction rate, and are the aeroplane rates still $150 and $170?Missing from their site

   A blog post on the school's own site quotes different, lower figures than the home page does. Ask which set is current.

   Do you offer block rates or prepay discounts, and what is the refund policy if I stop partway?

   Block discounts are common and rarely published. The refund terms matter more than the discount.

   What do you charge for the written test, the checkride, and the examiner's fee?

   The DPE fee alone runs $800 to $1,200 in most of the country and is almost never in a quoted hourly rate.

   How many trainers and how many full-time instructors do you have right now?

   Availability decides your pace, and pace decides your total more than the hourly rate does.

What to compare their answer against

Not Front Royal's rates. The middle of what 16 Virginia schools charge, to hold your phone quote against.

What we checked

READ THIS BEFORE RECORDING A RATE FOR FRONT ROYAL. The site publishes TWO CONFLICTING RATE SETS. Its home page gives the Cessna 152 at $150 and the 172 at $170, and a blog post dated August 7, 2025 gives them at $135 and $160 alongside an instruction rate of $60 per hour. The home page is current and is what is recorded above; the blog figures are a year old and are not. That stale post is the only place an instruction rate appears anywhere on the site, which is why this is a partial listing rather than a rated school. The site is also served over plain HTTP with no HTTPS. Checked August 13, 2026.
