Flight training at AJR Aviation

AJR mixes fuel bases within one fleet: the Arrow is published dry and the Cessna 150 and Twin Comanche are published wet. The dry Arrow is therefore not directly comparable to the other two, and fuel is billed on top of it.

   This is the number that is missing from the site. Ground is often billed separately and at a different rate.

   Plenty of schools charge more for advanced instruction. A flat rate quoted for the Private can climb later.

   Three aeroplanes including a twin are priced and instruction is not.

   What does fuel add to the Arrow's dry rate?

   It is the only dry tail in the fleet, so its published $130 is not comparable to the wet figures beside it.

   Do you offer block rates or prepay discounts, and what is the refund policy if I stop partway?

   Block discounts are common and rarely published. The refund terms matter more than the discount.

   What do you charge for the written test, the checkride, and the examiner's fee?

   The DPE fee alone runs $800 to $1,200 in most of the country and is almost never in a quoted hourly rate.

   How many trainers and how many full-time instructors do you have right now?

   Availability decides your pace, and pace decides your total more than the hourly rate does.

What we checked

A MIXED-BASIS FLEET, which is rare: the Arrow is dry and the other two are wet, on the same page. Worth flagging because a reader comparing the three prices is comparing different things. Its site is still on a squarespace.com subdomain rather than its own domain. Checked August 14, 2026.
