Flight training at United Flight Systems

No instructor rate. United Flight Systems publishes rates for all 7 of its airplanes and nothing for instruction, so there is no total on this page. Instruction is the second biggest line on a training bill, after the airplane.

United Flight Systems published aircraft rates
AircraftPublished rateNotes
Cessna 172N / 172P / Piper Warrior II$172/hrThe base of the fleet, roughly a dozen tails at one rate.
Cessna 172S / Piper Archer II / Warrior 180hp$180/hr
Cessna 172 (TAA, several tails incl. a G1000 172S)$188/hr
Cessna 172S (N1919U)$191.97/hr
Cessna Skylane 182T (N1492U)$265/hrHigh performance.
Beech Travel Air (N998DM)$370/hrThe twin.
Redbird FMX AATD$75/hr

The fleet page states the terms plainly: rates are wet with fuel reimbursed at the airport's posted self-serve price, and the price DOES NOT include the instructor. So the aeroplane side is complete and the instruction side is stated to exist and never priced.

What to ask when you call

The marked ones are what United Flight Systems's site never answers. The rest are what turns an hourly rate into a real bill.

  1. What do you charge per hour for flight instruction, and is ground instruction billed at the same rate?Missing from their site

This is the number that is missing from the site. Ground is often billed separately and at a different rate.

  2. Does the instructor rate change for the Instrument, Commercial, or CFI, or is it flat across everything?Missing from their site

Plenty of schools charge more for advanced instruction. A flat rate quoted for the Private can climb later.

  3. What does instruction cost per hour?Missing from their site

The fleet page prices around twenty tails and then says in as many words that the price does not include the instructor, without saying what the instructor costs.

  4. Do you offer block rates or prepay discounts, and what is the refund policy if I stop partway?

Block discounts are common and rarely published. The refund terms matter more than the discount.

  5. What do you charge for the written test, the checkride, and the examiner's fee?

The DPE fee alone runs $800 to $1,200 in most of the country and is almost never in a quoted hourly rate.

  6. How many trainers and how many full-time instructors do you have right now?

Availability decides your pace, and pace decides your total more than the hourly rate does.

What we checked

One of the deepest published fleets in Texas, around twenty tails across six price tiers, and the page ends by stating that the rate excludes the instructor without ever naming an instruction rate. A crawl scores this site as a full rate card because its SHOP sells an online course at $299.99 marked down to $200, and those two figures land in the instructor bucket. They are a product, not a rate. The wet basis is also conditional: fuel is reimbursed at the field's posted self-serve price rather than simply included.
