FalKor prices retail with a 10-hour block at 10% off ($152.10 for the Alpha, $188.10 for either 172, $161.10 for the Cherokee). FalKor's president and chief pilot says a 40-hour block at 14% off retail has just launched; it is not yet on the fleet page, so ask for the per-hour figure. The private-pilot cost breakdown prices the 172S at the block rate but the Alpha at $159/hr, which matches neither Alpha figure, so confirm which applies before budgeting. The second 172 and the Cherokee are listed as coming soon. Instruction is $70/hr, published in the course breakdowns. Commercial is a finish-up course for applicants with at least 230 hours.

What turns an hourly rate into a real bill.

  1. What gets billed on top of the hourly rates, and roughly how much per hour does it add?

    The site notes extras beyond the hourly figures. Ask for the all-in number per hour, not the base rate.

  2. Does the instructor rate change for the Instrument, Commercial, or CFI, or is it flat across everything?

    Plenty of schools charge more for advanced instruction. A flat rate quoted for the Private can climb later.

  3. Do you offer block rates or prepay discounts, and what is the refund policy if I stop partway?

    Block discounts are common and rarely published. The refund terms matter more than the discount.

  4. What do you charge for the written test, the checkride, and the examiner's fee?

    The DPE fee alone runs $800 to $1,200 in most of the country and is almost never in a quoted hourly rate.

  5. How many trainers and how many full-time instructors do you have right now?

    Availability decides your pace, and pace decides your total more than the hourly rate does.
