Flight training at Mike Goulian Aviation

No instructor rate. Mike Goulian Aviation publishes rates for all 5 of its airplanes and nothing for instruction, so there is no total on this page. Instruction is the second biggest line on a training bill, after the airplane.

What Mike Goulian Aviation publishes

Checked August 6, 2026 · Source

Mike Goulian Aviation published aircraft rates
AircraftPublished rateNotes
Aviat Husky$350/hrTailwheel training.
Cirrus SR20 G7$450/hr
Decathlon$450/hrTailwheel training.
Cirrus SR22 G7$585/hrHigh performance.
Cirrus SR22T G7$710/hrTurbocharged.

The aircraft rates are published cleanly and the site does not say whether fuel is included. Simulators are $125/hr for the G6 and $225/hr for the G7. These are among the highest aircraft rates in the directory, which follows from an all-Cirrus fleet: the cheapest aeroplane here costs more per hour than most schools' twins.

What to ask when you call

The marked ones are what Mike Goulian Aviation's site never answers. The rest are what turns an hourly rate into a real bill.

  1. What do you charge per hour for flight instruction, and is ground instruction billed at the same rate?Missing from their site

This is the number that is missing from the site. Ground is often billed separately and at a different rate.

  2. Does the instructor rate change for the Instrument, Commercial, or CFI, or is it flat across everything?Missing from their site

Plenty of schools charge more for advanced instruction. A flat rate quoted for the Private can climb later.

  3. Do the published aircraft rates include fuel, or is fuel billed separately?

The site does not say, and it is the difference between two rates that look identical and are not.

  4. How many flying hours does a full instructor day actually buy?Missing from their site

Instruction here is sold by the day, at $900 for a Cirrus CFII, and that only becomes comparable with an hourly school once you know the hours it covers.

  5. Is Cirrus transition training required before I can rent?

The fleet is entirely Cirrus, and standardised transition courses are usually a prerequisite rather than an option.

  6. Do you offer block rates or prepay discounts, and what is the refund policy if I stop partway?

Block discounts are common and rarely published. The refund terms matter more than the discount.

  7. What do you charge for the written test, the checkride, and the examiner's fee?

The DPE fee alone runs $800 to $1,200 in most of the country and is almost never in a quoted hourly rate.

  8. How many trainers and how many full-time instructors do you have right now?

Availability decides your pace, and pace decides your total more than the hourly rate does.

What we checked

An all-Cirrus operation run by the aerobatic pilot Mike Goulian, alongside tailwheel training in a Decathlon and a Husky and an SF50 Vision Jet operation. It publishes every aircraft rate and prices instruction only BY THE DAY, which is why it cannot be estimated hourly. Checked August 6, 2026.
