Flight training at California Flight School
No instructor rate. California Flight School publishes a $120/hr aircraft rate and nothing for instruction, so there is no total on this page. Instruction is the second biggest line on a training bill, after the airplane.

What California Flight School publishes
Checked August 6, 2026 · Source
Aircraft: $120/hr
The only aircraft figure published is "rentals start as low as $120/hr". No airplane is named against it, no tail numbers or per-aircraft rates appear anywhere, and the fuel basis is not stated. Treat $120 as a floor for the cheapest airplane on the field rather than as the rate you will pay. The fleet is listed by type only: Cirrus SR20, Cessna 172 R/S and N/P, Piper PA-28, Cessna 150 and a Piper Seneca twin.
What to ask when you call
The marked ones are what California Flight School's site never answers. The rest are what turns an hourly rate into a real bill.
What do you charge per hour for flight instruction, and is ground instruction billed at the same rate?Missing from their site
This is the number that is missing from the site. Ground is often billed separately and at a different rate.
Does the instructor rate change for the Instrument, Commercial, or CFI, or is it flat across everything?Missing from their site
Plenty of schools charge more for advanced instruction. A flat rate quoted for the Private can climb later.
Do the published aircraft rates include fuel, or is fuel billed separately?
The site does not say, and it is the difference between two rates that look identical and are not.
Which airplane is the $120/hr one, and what do the others cost?Missing from their site
The site advertises a floor without naming the airplane, so the figure cannot be planned against on its own.
Does the $120 include fuel?
Not stated anywhere, and a dry rate and a wet rate are not comparable.
What does the Seneca rent for, and is multi instruction priced separately?
A twin on the line makes the multi rating possible here, and none of it is priced.
Do you offer block rates or prepay discounts, and what is the refund policy if I stop partway?
Block discounts are common and rarely published. The refund terms matter more than the discount.
What do you charge for the written test, the checkride, and the examiner's fee?
The DPE fee alone runs $800 to $1,200 in most of the country and is almost never in a quoted hourly rate.
How many trainers and how many full-time instructors do you have right now?
Availability decides your pace, and pace decides your total more than the hourly rate does.

Send what they told youWhat we checked
Publishes a fleet by TYPE with no tail numbers and no per-aircraft prices, and a single marketing floor of "as low as $120/hr". A Piper Seneca twin is in the list, so the multi rating is plausible here, but nothing about it is costed. No instruction rate. Checked August 6, 2026.
