Rates are per Hobbs hour with fuel included. Instruction is tiered: $55/hr for the Private, Commercial, a rental checkout, a flight review, CFI training, a Mexico checkout and a high-performance endorsement, and $65/hr for tailwheel, Instrument and an IPC. Every Cessna 172 in the fleet is VFR only, so the instrument work prices on the Piper 28-180 rather than the cheapest airplane.

The instructor rate here is DERIVED as dual minus solo: $196 dual against $136 solo in the Cessna 172, and $155 against $95 in the Cessna 150, both giving $60/hr. Confirm before budgeting.

Airplane rental rates are published as wet. Cal Aggie is a membership club with dues, so these are member rates. Its $42/hr instruction is the lowest in the California set. A Piper PA-44 Seminole twin is in the fleet at $365/hr, but the club does not advertise multi-engine training, so the multi goals stay hidden. The Redbird simulator is $50/hr for members and $60/hr for non-members, and a 25-hour block on the Seminole carries a 4% credit-card discount.

How these estimates work
We apply one consistent method to every school: PilotBound's own completion-hours model, examiner-completion data where it exists (like the Private and Commercial) and FAA minimums where no credible public data exists (like the Instrument and CFI), times that school's published aircraft and instructor rates (linked on every card, with the date we verified them), plus the one-time fees most quotes leave out. Holding the hours model identical across schools means the only thing that changes card to card is the school's actual rates.
So the number is PilotBound's estimate, not the school's quote, and it will differ from a school's own cost figures, which are often based on FAA-minimum hours. The schools do not set or endorse it.
